A Day Made for Soup

I haven’t looked at the weather forecast in a few days, so rainy, cold dreariness was a shock. A shock, I tell you. I was expecting sun and 50s, like we had yesterday and the day before. Instead we have cold, cold rain and 40s. And the day started out so nicely sunny. That lasted about an hour.

DSC_0021All I want to do today is curl up with a blanket, a book and a cup of tea. Not exactly in my plans for the day, but it is that kind of afternoon. If I didn’t already have a plan for dinner, I would make roasted red pepper and tomato soup with some of my freezer stash of peppers.

Or maybe lentil soup.

What do you do to warm up on a cold, rainy November day?

  1. SO. COLD this afternoon as i read this. and you’re right: the day started out sunny enough and not even that terrible, but somehow it got gloomy and rainy and straight-up under-the-blankets GRODY. 🙂 i don’t mind it, but it’s totally soup night here also.

  2. I knew it was going to turn cold and rainy and that didn’t make me any happier when it did! 🙂 I used to think rainy days were baking days but now I feel like the humidity effects the baked goods unless they are eaten right away….always an option. 🙂 Instead, rainy days do make perfect soup days or crockpot stew days….anything warm and filling that also fills the house with delicious smells!

  3. Sarah,
I’ve taken to curling up with our dogs in any available sunbeam, so rainy days are a bummer for all of us. However, I do love a good rainy day–the years spent in Hawaii, with its unrelenting sunshine, also took a toll on me.
Soup and bread are my fixes for a gray day. And a brightly colored tie-dyed shirt! I just noticed my daughter has adopted the same policy.

I hope you get some sunshine soon.

    • I do find myself seeking out sunny windows in the winter. I do like a rainy day, when I can fit in curling up with a blanket and a book. When it is rainy and 40 degrees and I have to run errands, the appeal is gone.

We got sunshine over the weekend, which perked me right up. I just need to see that sun every few days!
